Rhinoplasty And The Risks It Entails

Submitted by: Blog Maintenance

Along with face-lift, breast enlargement and a number of other plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is considered as one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery in America. This procedure works by reshaping the contour of the nose for the following reasons: for enhancing the size, change of tip or bridge, change of angle in relation with your upper lip and the nose and to narrow the size of the nostrils. It may also be that it corrects some breathing problems and other birth-related conditions.

Rhinoplasty won t help increase the ideality of your face nor will it change other people s perception on you. Like with most plastic surgery procedures, the patient often expects that after the surgery, their psychological views about themselves will change along with the change in their physical appearances. Rhinoplasty is not a means to make other people look at you in a way different from how they currently see you or to match your ideal look.

People who are considered as best candidates for rhinoplasty are those who are after the improvements it may result to and not for perfection. You have to be physically, emotionally and psychologically healthy before you may be considered as candidate or else all your expectations will become failures. It is mostly performed for aesthetic purposes. The person has the only command over the attitude he or she may take after the procedure.

Age can also be part of the considerations before you may be passed as a candidate for the operation. Majority surgeons do not allow surgery for teenagers. Not until they are past the stage of development, 15 for girls and a bit later for boys. It must be noted too that the teenager s intention is healthy.

As it may be observed, all surgeries entail risks and possible failures. However, these chances can be decreased if a certified and experienced surgeon will perform the surgery. Nonetheless, there would still be some complications that can never be prevented such as reaction to anesthesia (both local and general), nose bleeding and infections. It is best to follow your surgeon s guidelines to minimize such negative effects.

There can be permanent and temporary side effects after rhinoplasty. Usually after the surgery, small spots of red blood cells may be seen on your nose. These typically become permanent, it is best to ask your physician concerning it. Scarring on the other hand is very minimal. Rhinoplasty is normally performed inside the nose so the scars wont be visible. Nevertheless, when the surgery is open, especially with the case of shortening the expanse of your nostrils, the scars may still not be visible.

There is also a possibility of repeated surgery. But this is a minor issue since only around 10% of all patients will have to endure secondary surgery for correcting deformities. This can never be avoidable and may also happen among the most skilled surgeons.

Communication, specifically a good one, must be made between you and your surgeon. You have to discuss your goals and see if they will work for you. On his part, in return, he has to answer all your queries and assure to it that you know all the risks that are covered by the procedure. He must also stress out the factors that will seriously affect your rhinoplasty procedure. These factors, when not properly addressed may have adverse effects on the outcome of your surgery. It is best if these will be disclosed to you.

New method of displaying time patented

Saturday, October 14, 2006

An American inventor has patented a pair of new time formats with a footprint less than 50% of that of conventional four-digit time. The more unusual of the two new formats, called “TWELV”, dispenses with numerals altogether. In place of clock hands or digits, the new clock uses color to convey the hour and a moon image to convey the minute, which moon slowly grows throughout the course of an hour from a narrow crescent to a full-fledged circle.

The second and more approachable of the new formats retains numerical digits to indicate the minute but uses colors to convey the hour.

Early critics question whether the aesthetic benefits of the moon-clock will be sufficient to encourage users to learn the color-based time-telling system. However, the size advantages of the new system may make it particularly suitable for mobile applications, particularly cell phones, wearable computers, and head-mounted displays.

What Are Rhytids And How To Get Rid Of Them Quickly

What Are Rhytids And How To Get Rid Of Them Quickly

by

Vanessa Price

As you get older, sings of aging begin appearing and one of the most initial and visible signs of aging is the appearance of wrinkles on your face. Such wrinkles are called rhytids and they can either on the surface of the skin or much deeper.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8mUmYE3RwQ[/youtube]

Wrinkles, fine lines, laugh lines, frown lines etc., get more and more deeper with time and they can make you look old, tired and worn out. Not just this, they can also make you look older than your age. One of the most basic reason behind the appearance of wrinkles is the short fall in the production of collagen and elastin in your skin that is basically controlled by HGH or the human growth hormone. HGH is the master hormone in your body and it controls all cell and tissue growth processes. Once you hit the age of 30, HGH production begins declining and this can set into the motion the process of aging. Reduced collagen production not only reduces skin thickness but also reduces skin elasticity resulting in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Another factor that leads to appearance of wrinkles is exposure to sun. UV rays can damage your skin cells and they can cause wrinkles to appear much faster. HOW TO GET RID OF RHYTIDS OR SKIN WRINKLES 1. USING SUN SCREEN One of the most important thing to do is to use a good sun screen whenever going out in the sun. This can help slow down the process of getting wrinkles and also help prevent your complexion from getting darkened. 2. DRINK MORE WATER Water is great for your skin. Drinking enough water can help flush out toxins from your body and it can also make your skin smooth and supple. 3. HAVE SOME BERRIES Various kinds of berries such as strawberries, blueberries, acai berries are rich in antioxidants that help prevent your skin from free radicals that damage cells and tissues. They are simply great for your skin. 4. SIP SOME GREEN TEA Green tea is a wonderful health drink. It is not for nothing that people across China, Japan and most of the other Asian countries have been drinking tea for hundreds of years. It is a rich source of antioxidants that help flush out toxins from your body. Green tea not only prevents acne and eczema but also helps improve your complexion. 5. SKIN COSMETICS One of the most effective treatments for removing wrinkles is botox. However, it can only be used by a qualified doctor or dermatologist. Not just this, botox injections can be expensive and painful too. However, there are some natural and organic creams that have developed after years of research and study that can ensure botox like effects without any side effects and that too at a fraction of the cost. Such creams are becoming more and more popular among people looking for ways to get rid of wrinkles.

Shin Corporation defamation suit fails

Shin Corporation defamation suit fails

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Shin Corporation, the multi-billion baht telecom and IT giant, has lost its defamation suit against Supinya Klangnarong for her comments in an interview with the Thai Post in July 2003.

In her interview Supinya, secretary general of the Campaign for Popular Media, had stated that Shin corporation gained revenue following the election of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the company’s founder. As a result the corporation sued her and five of the Thai Post’s executives for defamation.

The court’s finding that Supinya has a right to express her opinion, and that it did not defame Shin Corp. followed a number of attempts by the company to settle out of court or otherwise avoid a judgement.

This judgement comes at an inopportune moment for the Prime Minister: his family’s recent tax-free sale of their stake in Shin has acted as a catalyst for the protests calling for Thaksin to resign.

Friday, March 10, 2006

Buffalo, New York —The Common Council of Buffalo voted on Tuesday to send the Elmwood Village Hotel proposal “to committee for further discussion”, after citing the need for more public involvement.

The Elmwood Village Hotel is a development proposal by the Savarino Construction Services Corporation, a project designed by the architect Karl Frizlen of The Frizlen Group. The hotel would be placed on the southeast corner of Elmwood and Forest Avenues in Buffalo.

To make way for the project, at least five buildings located at 1109 to 1121 Elmwood Ave would be demolished. At least two properties on Forest Avenue could also be demolished. The Elmwood properties, according to Eva Hassett, Vice President of Savarion Construction, are “under contract”, but it is unclear if Savarino Construction actually owns the Elmwood properties. Hans Mobius, a former mayorial candidate, is still believed to be the current owner the properties. Mobius also owns 607 Forest Avenue.

The properties 605 and 607 Forest Avenue could also be included in the proposal according to Hassett.

“We would use a Special Development Plan to rezone 1119-1121 Elmwood and 605 Forest to a C-2 zoning category,” stated Hassett. It is possible that Savarino Construction may try to obtain a variance for 605 Forest, which would allow them to enforce eminent domain, should the hotel be allowed to go forward.

The building at 607 Forest was also discussed to be rezoned, but it is unclear what the plans would be for that property. During the February 28 Common Council meeting, Hassett stated that the properties 605 and 607 were “now off the agenda”.

Pano Georgiadis, owner of Pano’s Restaurant at 1081 Elmwood, owns the property at 605 Forest and attended Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

“Having a hotel is a bright idea. We all love the idea of a hotel, but the way that it is presented, is wishful thinking. This hotel does not fit. It’s like putting two gallons of water in a gallon jug, it does not fit. At the last meeting, the architect admitted that they are planning to put the undergound parking lot and the hotel, right at the property line. If I open my window, I will be able to touch the wall, that goes fifty feet high”, said Georgiadis.

“There is a problem having a seventy-two room hotel and fifty-five parking spaces. That means that all the other cars will spill all over the neighborhood. The footprint is simply too small. If you have a bigger [parking] lot, and a smaller hotel, I will welcome a hotel. I have a parking lot at my own business, and I am chasing people all day long. Remember, the city says it has ‘zero tolerance [for illegal parking]’. Try telling that to the guy from Albany who came to see his kids, that are going to Buffalo State, who would get tickets totaling over a hundred dollars”, added Georgiadis.

The city’s Planning Board is scheduled to meet on March 14, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. about the proposal. Although a discussion will take place, no vote is expected to be taken.

At the moment, none of the properties are zoned for a hotel. Savarino Construction plans on asking for a C2 zoning permit. If that does not work, they plan to implement a new zoning plan called a “special development plan” which would allow for only a hotel on the site. That zone would not be able to be changed.

“This [project] justifies Mobius’s refusal to invest in any maitenance[sic] or improvements”, on the properties said Clarence Carnahan, a local resident. “Where were the Council persons over the years? Where were the city inspectors over the years, to make sure that he maintained and improved his properties? The government was supposed to be protecting, not being preditorial. I see a predatorial issue here when it comes to this hotel. Over the years: Why has the local government been disfunctional when it came to Mobius’s properties? Refusal to invest in improvements, doesn’t that sound like a slumlord? Maybe I am missing a point here, but what kind of messages does this send to other slumlords that havn’t[sic] been jailed or fined? It’s [the hotel] trying to be pushed through.”

Carnahan also presented signs for residents and or business owners who are opposed to the hotel, that could be placed in windows or on stakes in the yard. Some of the signs said, ‘No tell hotel’, ‘Hans off, no hotel’, ‘It takes more than a hotel to make a village’. and ‘Keep Elmwood free, no hotel’. Carnahan plans on making more signs for a protest to be held on Saturday March 18, at 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Elmwood and Forest. Some signs were given to individuals after the meeting.

“First things first, Hans is the problem, and I don’t think it has been addressed. Let’s roll back the clock on this project. What can we do with Hans? There is such thing as eminent domain, which could be of greater interest to the community, to seize the property at its lowest assessed value”, said Nancy Pollina, co-owner of Don Apparel with Patty Morris at 1119 Elmwood. “There are so many ideas that have not been explored and we are about to give this parcel away, to a big developer.”

Mobius has not returned any calls by Wikinews regarding the situation.

A freelance journalist writing for Wikinews has obtained a letter, exclusively, addressed to one of the five business owners from Hans Mobius stating:

There is a proposal to develop my property which you are currently renting. Because of opposition to this development, it does not look like it will happen. I will let you know if there any changes.

Despite the letter, there have been no plans or decisions made to end the proposal.

To date, none of the business owners or residents of 1119-1121 Elmwood have received an eviction notice.

Business owners and residents gave an indication of what they would like to see happen at the corner; a project similar to one done locally last year. There, developers renovated two buildings on Auburn and Elmwood Avenues, merging the buildings into one thus allowing for more shop space. Among some of the shops to move in after the development were Cone Five Pottery, The Ruby Slipper, and Abraham’s Jewelers. Prior to the renovation work, the left building in the picture was boarded up for several years. Many of the concerned locals would like to see a similar development on Forest and Elmwood.

Rocco Termini, a developer in Buffalo, proposed a similar design at the February 28 community meeting

In an interview after the February 28 meeting, Termini stated, “I will be willing to take a look at this myself, or I would be more than happy to be partners with Sam, Sam Savarino”, who is President and Chief Executive Officer of Savarino Construction Services Corp.

So far Savarino Construction has no plans to team up with Termini.

How To Pass Your Boating Exam

By Adriana Notton

A boating license is a legal document issued by the a particular state’s motor vehicle department and is required in order to man any sea vessel. The qualifications and guidelines tend to vary from state to state but the license is mandatory in order to own and operate a boat. The age and type of watercraft owned by the applicant are factors in the kind of license you get but to ensure that one is acquired at all, steps should be taken to make sure you pass the boating exam.

In order to have the best chance of passing the boat exam, you will need to first make sure that you are fully familiarized with your vessel. Learn about its make and model by studying the object’s owner’s manual. Later, when you’re ready, ask an adult family member or friend to accompany you out on the water. For your safety, stay only in calm and open waters away from other vehicles.

This will be the most helpful method of learning to operate your boat. The hands on experience will ensure that you are both comfortable with the craft and more aware of its basic rules. These include what to do when approaching another boat, the proper way to pass under a bridge, the purpose of buoys, and how to read currents.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1DaXtA–o0[/youtube]

Most states require that prospective boaters get at least fifty hours of chaperoned boating before they attempt the exam. Your state may ask less of you, but you should still only take the test when you feel you are completely ready for it.

You will also need to get yourself comfortable with the general maintenance of the vehicle. These aspects include understanding how many people are allowed to be on your boat at one time and the maximum amount of weight the craft can accommodate. Test takers will be required to know how to fuel a boat, whether on land or water, as well.

The general laws of the water will need to be studied too. Following the rules is necessary for you and your passengers safety and it’s also the law. For one thing, your vessel should be equipped with a working fire extinguisher and you need to know how to use it. You’ll also need to be aware that, when the boat is out on the water, it’s your responsibility to have enough life jackets for everyone on board.

As far as water sports go, you need to be fully aware of how to handle situations where the boat comes near anyone that is kayaking, water skiing, or tubing. In the same vein, understanding how to operate you craft while some of your passengers engage in these actions is also important.

Remember that boating emergencies are always a possibility. Responsible drivers are ones that know how to handle themselves in cases of drownings, crashes, injuries, and other accidents. The boating exam will definitely test you in several different scenarios so be sure to read up on the proper protocol.

Rachel Weisz wants Botox ban for actors

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

English actress Rachel Weisz thinks that Botox injections should be banned for all actors.

The 39-year-old actress, best known for her roles in the Mummy movie franchise and for her Academy Award-winning portrayal in The Constant Gardener, feels facial Botox injections leave actors less able to convey emotion and that it harms the acting industry as much as steroids harm athletes.

In an interview with UK’s Harper’s Bazaar, coming out next month, Weisz says, “It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” she claims. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

Currently living in New York, she also mentions that English women are much less worried about their physical appearance than in the United States. “I love the way girls in London dress,” she claimed. “It’s so different to the American ‘blow-dry and immaculate grooming’ thing.”

Kennedy Center names 2007 honors recipients

Kennedy Center names 2007 honors recipients

Friday, September 14, 2007

The Kennedy Center announced that its 30th presentation of the Kennedy Center Honors would go to pianist Leon Fleisher, comedian Steve Martin, singer Diana Ross, director Martin Scorsese and musician Brian Wilson. The Center was opened to the public in 1971 and was envisioned as part of the National Cultural Center Act, which mandated that the independent, privately-funded institution would present a wide variety of both classical and contemporary performances, commission the creation of new artistic works, and undertake a variety of educational missions to increase awareness of the arts.

In a statement, Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman said that “with their extraordinary talent, creativity and perseverance, the five 2007 honorees have transformed the way we, as Americans, see, hear and feel the performing arts.”

Fleisher, 79, a member of the Peabody Institute‘s music faculty, is a pianist who lost use of his right hand in 1965 due to a neurological condition. He became an accomplished musician and conductor through the use of his left hand. At 67, he regained the use of his right hand. With the advent of Botox therapy, he was once more able to undertake two-hand performances in 2004, his first in four decades. “I’m very gratified by the fact that it’s an apolitical honor,” Fleisher said. “It is given by colleagues and professional people who are aware of what [an artist] has done, so it really is apolitical — and that much more of an honor.”

Martin, 62, a comedian who has written books and essays in addition to his acting and stand-up comedy career, rose to fame during his work on the American television program Saturday Night Live in the 1970’s.
