Woman dies when pet camel tries to mate with her

Monday, August 20, 2007

An unnamed woman from Mitchell, Queensland, Australia has died after her pet camel knocked her down to the ground, stomped on her, and then laid on top of her, in what police suspect was an attempt by the camel to mate with her. The woman was found at 18:30 (AEST) by her husband after he finished feeding his stock at the family ranch.

The woman in question had a fondness for exotic pets, and received the camel as a 60th birthday present. The camel was ten months old, and weighed 152 kg (336 lbs). Camels have lived in Australia since they were transported there in the 1840s. Camels are not normally aggressive, but can become more dangerous if treated as pets.

According to the police, the camel displayed possible mating behaviour. Craig Gregory, Detective Senior Constable for Queensland Police said, “I’d say it’s probably been playing, or it may be even a sexual sort of thing.” One camel expert, Chris Hill, claimed that the animal’s behaviour was definitely sexual.

Man dies after being shot outside his house in Lanarkshire, Scotland; murder investigation launched

Thursday, June 10, 2010

A man has died after he was shot outside his house in Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. Anthony Wright, aged 35, was shot outside his household in the rural town of Shotts at approximately 0700 BST (0800 UTC) on Wednesday.

Police think that Wright, who was shot twice, was the anticipated target. An ambulance then transported him to Wishaw General Hospital; he died in the hospital later that day.

A murder investigation has begun outside Wright’s house. A completed report is expected to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal later on. No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident occurring.

I would ask members of the public who have not yet come forward and know something about this crime, to speak to police as a matter of urgency.

A description of the suspect’s appearance has not been disclosed by the police. The police have not offered any motive for the crime. Reports say that the suspect left the crime scene on foot, going across some wasteland; he was last sighted at the rear of Inverkip Drive. One nearby resident, who is remaining unidentified, commented about Wright: “We don’t know the man well but he had a boy at the high school and three wee tots. It’s shocking really.”

Detective Superintendent John McSporran stated on Wednesday, “Extensive door-to-door enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal once again to anyone who was in the Inverkip Drive area at that time to come forward. Officers from the enquiry team are also keen to talk to anyone who may have seen the suspect heading towards wasteground at the back of Inverkip Drive.”

McSporran urged individuals who know about the incident to speak with law enforcement, “I would ask members of the public who have not yet come forward and know something about this crime, to speak to police as a matter of urgency. I have no doubt that there are people out there who know who was involved in this crime and who may have reservations about coming forward. I would urge them to do so without delay as it is vital that the killer is arrested and brought to justice.”

Travel ban 2.0 exempts Iraqis, U.S. permanent residents

Travel ban 2.0 exempts Iraqis, U.S. permanent residents

Thursday, March 9, 2017

On Monday, U.S. president Donald Trump signed in the Oval Office a revised version of his executive order barring entry to the United States by refugees and individuals from certain Muslim-majority countries. While the previous ban, which caused chaos at airports and drew considerable criticism from within and outside of the U.S. government, covered seven countries, this one names only six and specifically exempts legal permanent residents and anyone who already has a visa to enter the country, or a visa revoked by the earlier executive order.

Residents of Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen must now wait 90 days for visas. Iraq was removed following concerns that people who had helped the United States military and Iraqi government during and after the Iraq War might be left in danger. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said this was because the U.S. State Department and Iraqi government improved the vetting process, though he did not say what exactly changed. The Iraqi government also lobbied heavily. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi spoke with President Trump by phone and Vice President Pence in person. A senior official with the Trump administration also told reporters the Iraqi government had promised “timely repatriation” for Iraqi nationals whom the U.S. has decided to deport.

There is still a 120-day moratorium on accepting refugees into the U.S., though the ban on Syrian refugees is no longer indefinite. The new order omits language that gave priority to religious minorities, which critics such as National Public Radio’s Domenico Montanaro read as “Christians.” Claims of religious discrimination against Muslims contributed to the first order’s overturn by the judiciary.

Under the previous travel ban, permanent residents in possession of a green card were concerned that if they were to visit their home countries they might be barred from returning to the United States. The new executive order exempts them.

Representative Adam Schiff, a Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said both orders have “the same fundamental flaws.” Representative Andre Carson of Indiana, who is Muslim, referred to this as “Muslim ban 2.0” on Twitter. Senator Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, called for the order’s repeal, saying, “A watered-down ban is still a ban.”

Not all of the response has been negative. “I have always shared President Trump’s desire to protect our homeland,” said Senator Lindsay Graham, a Republican and a critic of the first executive order. “This Executive Order will achieve the goal of protecting our homeland and will, in my view, pass legal muster.”

The order is set to go into effect on March 16. The White House continues to affirm that the original travel ban was legal and the issue may still be heard before the U.S. Supreme Court.

BellSouth denies phone records were handed over to the NSA

BellSouth denies phone records were handed over to the NSA

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

BellSouth, said in a statement yesterday that the telecommunications company did not hand over customer call records to the National Security Agency or NSA. On May 11, 2006, USA Today reported that the NSA collected millions of call logs from telecommunications companies in 2001 under a contract the NSA claims to have had with the company.

BellSouth said that they conducted a “internal review” and that the review “confirmed no such contract exists and we have not provided bulk customer calling records to the NSA,” said Jeff Battcher, spokesman for BellSouth.

“We do not believe that any final review will turn up anything different from what we have currently found. There is no link between the NSA and BellSouth that we can find in what we feel is a very exhaustive review. We wouldn’t have made this bold statement if we weren’t confident about this,” added Battcher.

AT&T and Verizon Communications were also said to have handed over customer call logs, but Verizon said on Friday that they don’t “and will not, provide any government agency unfettered access to our customer records or provide information to the government under circumstances that would allow a fishing expedition.”

On Monday, Massachusetts Representative Edward Markey of the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on telecommunications asked for help from the Federal Communications Commission or FCC, to investigate whether Verizon, AT&T, and BellSouth violated privacy rights under communication laws and regulations.

Are Your Emotions The Cause Of Your Weight Gain.

I have been working with clients using hypnosis, nlp and modern personnel development techniques for over 10 years. What i have found out during this time is that breaking the link between your emotions and food is the one way to guarantee you will never be overweight again. The linking begins when people are very young, when after feeling an emotion that they find discomforting and not knowing what to do. They then eat food for the first time to try and distract themselves from the negative feeling, there is then more food and more feelings. After a few years of compounding the process has then become completely out of control. The person is overweight and the linking between their emotions and food has become so second nature that they do not even consciously realize they are doing it. In fact they then may even begin to eat food at just the thought that they may experience a negative feeling, no longer needing the feeling as a stimulus. The cycle of trying to diet going up and down in weight will always be perpetuated until someone takes control of eating in response to their emotions. The reason why many people may lose weight for several months and then gain it again is 100% due to their emotions. The catalyst for their habit change was experiencing an emotion that they directly linked to overeating in the past, the moment they then followed that emotion and ate in response to it the pattern begins again, this time reinforced and even stronger. Conscious acceptance and gaining an understanding of how your emotions are linked to your overeating is the first step to permanently breaking the link between your emotions and food. Psychological research has proven over the past 10 years that eating to try and change a persons emotional state does not even work, in fact it just compounds whatever negative feeling they are experiencing. Taking control of your emotions and not over eating when you are feeling sad, lonely, depressed, anxious, bored or upset is one thing that truly matters when looking to permanently achieve a healthy weight.

Five police officers killed in Dallas, Texas during sniper attack

Five police officers killed in Dallas, Texas during sniper attack

Sunday, July 10, 2016

On Thursday, five police officers were killed and seven were injured after a sniper attacked a public protest march in downtown Dallas, Texas. Sources indicate at least three other people were taken into custody for questioning relating to the attack. The march was held to protest the shooting deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota during engagements with police officers.

Police identified 25-year-old Micah Johnson as the suspect. Johnson had previously served in the US army, and police reported he said he wanted to exact revenge upon police officers after news of Sterling and Castile’s deaths. Ammunition and weapons were found inside Johnson’s home. Dallas Police reported the policemen were shot at from a height. Officials said two civilians were also injured in the attack.

Micah Johnson served for the United States Army Reserve from 2009 until early 2015, including a tour of Afghanistan. Johnson had no criminal record. His attack was reported to be a lone mission.

After the attack earlier on Thursday, police killed Micah Johnson in El Centro College’s parking lot by a bomb explosion.

Hillary Clinton, 2016 United States presidential election candidate and favorite for the Democratic nomination this July, said, “There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing, too many people dead who shouldn’t be. No-one has all the answers. We have to find them together.”

After Johnson was killed, Mike Rawlings, Dallas’ mayor, said “We believe now the city is safe”.

How To Prepare For The ACT With Practice Questions

By Scott Carey

A great way to prepare for the ACT is to answer a practice question every day. If you look around, you should be able to find a resource that has practice tests that you can take questions from. Take one of the practice tests and randomly pick a question from any of the sections. Take a minute to think about the tips and strategies you should have learned. Now answer the question. Your goal is to get every question right.

Don’t hurry; take your time and think about the question. The ACT test has some very definite types of questions. Figure out what kind of question it is? Review in your mind what you already know about that question type. For example, if the question is a math question and you don’t know how to do that problem, then go review the math principles related to the question before you answer it. If it is an English question do the same thing. If it is a question using commas and you are not sure you know the grammar rules for using commas, then review those rules before you answer the question. Remember that your goal answer every one of these questions correctly.

After you answer the question, check to see if your answer was right. If you got it correct and you are sure you know why it was correct, put a mark by that question that shows you got right. If you don’t know why you got that question right, it is very important for you to understand why the answer it correct. If you just guessed, you may miss out finding an area that you need to improve. When you are preparing, it does no good for you to get questions right by accident. If you don’t understand why you got the correct answer, make a notation next to the question that indicates the area that you need to improve on.

Likewise, if you got the wrong answer, make sure you understand why you got the wrong answer. Determine what type of mistake it was and learn from it. If it was a careless mistake, figure out why you are making that type of error. If it is a knowledge problem, add that area to the things that you review. Do this for every practice question you do. You will start to see areas that you need to review or to learn.

One practice question a day may not be enough. You may find that you should do multiple practice questions each day. The process you need to go through should be the same. Remember your goal is to get every question right and understand why you got it right. Just getting it right because you guessed doesn’t help much when preparing the ACT in this way.

Regular practice is almost always better than a couple of cram sessions right before the test. It gives you time to make sure you understand the questions and the answers and allows you time to improve those areas that you are weak in.
